.We were both brought up and had lived all our married life (33 years to date!) in and around Halstead, Essex in England where almost all our immediate family lived too. Having finished converting a beautiful 18th Century Essex barn, which had taken us 14 years, and had been a happy family home for us along with  two wonderful sons, a yellow labrador and 2 puss-cats, the major decision was made to sell up and move!  Life’s events had ‘taken their toll’ and a big change was needed for survival so....  with a ‘pin in the map’ and a few Google  sessions later we were led to Pembrokeshire  - some property viewings were arranged and we headed off, in late November  2007, for a Welsh weekend ....  Stayed at a delightful B&B in Newcastle Emlyn (Katherine and Carl are now firm  friends!) and we popped in to West Wales Properties to check out what they had to offer. The white Georgian ‘gentleman’s residence’ - a farmhouse, a barn with planning permission and some land in a ‘lovely’ location, was shown to us and we reluctantly agreed to view it on our way home that day - we were assured it was ‘just what we were looking for’.... It was a grey, wet blustery day when we had our first glimpse of  Wernddofn sitting proudly on the hill in front of us as we drove down the road from  Boncath - at least we could pronounce the name of the village!  As we entered the farm   courtyard we liked what we saw and even before we had walked through the kitchen door we knew that Wernddofn had chosen us to be it’s next ‘custodians’.

The Welsh farming family who welcomed us into their home (same family for nearly 80 years)  were delightful and everything felt so ‘right’ - it felt like home ......  March 12th 2008 arrived  and we waved goodbye to Lt Maplestead, all our friends and family (including our very expectant ‘daughter-in-law’ with 1st grandchild) and began our journey to our ‘new life’ in Wales ...... It’s now over a year later (April 2009) and we  love our new home, the clean air, quiet roads,  the fantastic beaches and coastline, The Preseli Hills, our fabulous views, the Welsh people, time to enjoy life and each other (!), good health, the orchids ...............why didn’t we do this years ago?    We are so lucky ....

come and share it all with us  - stay in The Stable, the ideal location for starting YOUR Welsh adventure!

Well it’s April  4th - the start of the ‘holiday’ season and we have guests in The Stable!  Our plan was to open Easter week (from April 10th) but an enquiry came in for the week previous and we hadn’t got the heart to say we weren’t open yet as the family had been let down by another holiday cottage so...... There we were thinking we’d got another week to finish off all the last minute bits and pieces - talk about ‘60 minute makeover’!!  - we worked like trojans late into the night and early mornings but we managed it.  The outside area and garden still needs some work but we’ll do that over the coming weeks....

The bookings are coming in now - must have done something right with the advertising then .. AND people are finding our website... great stuff!!

Now we have time for a rest and enjoy some quality time together again before we embark on ‘Phase 2’ of Wernddofn Holiday Cottages - the top barn...... Over to the BLOG......

Come and share our little piece of glorious Pembrokeshire......
